As announced last night by Glen, here is a copy of the email Fred sent me to circulate to the band.
Hi, Linda
This is the round-robin that has been sent out to all LCCB members. I know some of your players are interested, so,if you would be so kind as to circulate it round RCB, I would be most grateful. It should be a good trip, with the likelihood of decent weather (a change from some of our November outings). However, to make this work we need an early, firm commitment from interested players: not in tablets of stone, since the event is still in planning, but enough that, if it happens, these players can be counted as part of the outfit. The Tattoo will, I think, be a slightly bigger version of the Leith Tattoo: nothing elaborate, but looking as smart as we can throughout.
Message to LCCB.
Hi, all!
Following last night's announcement, here is a some more information as to how things stand so far. An early, firm commitment is required if this trip is to happen and work smoothly.
The dates for the Flanders expedition for 2010 are: depart Thursday 23. September, return Edinburgh 29. September. Performances will probably consist of a Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, playing at the Market on the morning of 25.09: a couple of evening indoor concerts, a Parade on the Sunday morning and the Ieper Tattoo in the evening. There will be opportunities for a little sightseeing after Lunch on the arrival day
and, in a more leisurely fashion, on the 27th., and en route to Zeebrugge or Dunkirk on the 28th.
Details are, obviously, still at the planning stage so that costs are not yet known. Barracks accomodation will be available: any players wishing to "live out" at a B&B may do so, but will have to arrange it in person. The town won't be so busy at this time of year, so there should be accomodation available if booked well in advance. It looks as if food and drink will be covered by the organisers in Ieper.
I suggested last night that it would make sense for us to engage in some serious fund-raising: the New Kirkgate Centre could be approached for a monthly Saturday morning spot, e.g. 10.00 - 12.00 hrs with a couple of breaks. Perhaps we could also pick up a couple at the Ocean Terminal, maybe, like the Christmas gig, on a Thursday evening to catch the late shoppers. Any ideas welcome: it's YOUR band, so don't be afraid to chuck in the odd idea. It might also be a good idea to set up a savings scheme, so that costs can be spread over perhaps the period November 09 - beginning of May 10. There will be deposits for coach, cabin accomodation and meals on the ferry from around March. If by savings and fund-raising we could be in the happy position of paid up in advance that would make the whole operation much simpler
Fred.
